Jewelry photography
A piece of jewelry is small, reflective and full of detail: the metal mirrors everything around it, the stones live on light, and the setting has to be as sharp as the gem. The studio creates jewelry photography for jewelry makers and workshops, brands and communication agencies, in the studio in Rome or directly on location.
Metal and stones: controlling reflections
Yellow gold, white gold, steel: polished metal has no colour of its own, it shows what it reflects. That is why jewelry lighting is built mainly with surfaces and panels the metal mirrors, chosen and placed to draw its shape without blown highlights or black patches.
Stones, on the other hand, need light that brings out their brilliance and colour. Balancing the two, in a single shot or in several shots blended in post-production, is the heart of the work.
Sharp throughout: focus stacking
At such close range, depth of field is a few millimetres: if the stone is sharp, the setting blurs. With focus stacking, several shots are taken with focus on different planes and blended in post-production.
The result is a piece sharp from the first surface to the last: engravings, prongs, settings and finishes as legible as their maker intended.
In the studio or on location
Shoots take place in the studio in Rome or, when the pieces shouldn't travel, directly in the workshop or boutique: the set is built on site with studio lights and equipment, and the jewelry never leaves the people who look after it.
Catalogues and e-commerce
Clean, consistent images that present a whole collection under the same light.
The piece as the hero
Surfaces, materials and light built around the piece, for campaigns, launches and social media.
The piece on stage
Rings, bracelets and necklaces on the wrist, hand or neck, to show how they are worn.
Who it's for, and what for
Jewelry makers and workshops, jewelry brands and communication agencies: for catalogues, e-commerce, collection launches, advertising campaigns and social media.
One example is the campaign for Essesteel Jewels, created on a brief from a communication agency: steel and wood for the men's line, pearls and coral for the women's line. If you also work with glass and labels, see the page on packaging photography.

Frequently asked questions
Can you photograph jewelry at our workshop or boutique?
Yes. As well as in the studio in Rome, the set can be built directly in the workshop or boutique, so the pieces never have to be shipped.
How do you get a piece sharp in every detail?
With focus stacking: several shots focused on different planes are blended in post-production, so stones, setting and engravings are all sharp at once.
Do you shoot white-background jewelry packshots for catalogues and e-commerce?
Yes. From white-background packshots for catalogues and e-commerce to advertising images for a collection launch.
Do you work on briefs from communication agencies?
Yes. The studio works both directly with brands and makers and alongside agencies, as in the campaign for Essesteel Jewels.
