How we overturned the traditional visual codes of leather goods to turn a leather handbag into a pop, dynamic and contemporary style statement.
Context and Strategic Challenge
The market for handcrafted leather goods has long relied on predictable visual codes: neutral backdrops, sterile shop windows, a luxury that is understated but static and distant. When the communications agency handling the Artigianino brand approached our studio, the brief was not simply to "photograph some bags". On behalf of the end client, the task was to shake off that dusty perception.
The agreed positioning goal was clear: to speak to a young, urban and discerning audience, showing that Italian craftsmanship is not a museum piece but a living accessory, made to be worn every day with wit, personality and movement.
A Visual Oxymoron: Tailored Luxury Meets Pop Culture
To break the mould we devised a deliberately unexpected contrast: putting the model on vintage roller skates (quad skates), paired with an oversized men's shirt and the soft leather bags from the collection.
Triptych Styling
The campaign was built as a cinematic pop-art triptych, divided by vertical bands of colour. The model's precarious balance on the skates captures the action at the decisive moment, giving the image an immediate physical energy that draws attention on social media and digital channels.
Control of the Material
Despite the playful, eclectic set-up, the bags (in burgundy, black and mustard) remain firmly at the centre. Soft light shapes the natural folds and the grain of the leather, bringing out the craftsmanship against the clean background of the wood panelling.
